Introductory Science Curriculum Overview
Science Shepherd's Introductory Science is an engaging and comprehensive video-based homeschool elementary science curriculum recommended for grades 1-5 or ages 6-11. Written by physician and homeschool dad Scott Hardin, MD, Introductory Science covers a wide range of topics - creation, geology, biology, astronomy, oceanography, meteorology and more - which will serve as the foundation for a student's scientific studies.
The Introductory Science Video Course is available via lifetime online streaming access to daily 2-5 minute video lessons (including activities), which can be viewed at any time, or a DVD set (yours to keep). Each lesson is designed to be easily accessible for young learners, with clear explanations and engaging visuals. The course is divided into 35 weeks, but can be easily adjusted to fit your school year.
- Video Course: 193 lessons (including video activities), 7+ hours, ~2.5 minute average lesson time.
In addition to the Introductory Science Video Course, students complete workbook assignments to reinforce key concepts taught in each video lesson. Choose between the Introductory Science Workbook Level A or Introductory Science Workbook Level B to tailor the course to your student(s). The Level B Workbook contains all of the same material as Level A, plus additional content for older students. Because all of the video lessons are the same for each workbook level, students in both levels can watch each lesson together.
- Workbook Level A is recommended for elementary grades 1-3 or ages 6-9.
- Workbook Level B is recommended for elementary grades 3-5 or ages 8-11.
- Better Together! The Level A and Level B Workbooks share the same video lessons so that students in both Levels can complete all video lessons together.
- Older students who have never formally studied science may benefit from the class to help understand the basics of studying science and be better prepared for more advanced study.
These grade/age recommendations are flexible and meant only as guidelines. Please choose the level you feel is best for your individual student, considering his or her reading level and critical thinking. The free course preview and Workbook samples can also help you choose the appropriate Level (see below).
Multiple students? If you need Level A and Level B material simply purchase an Introductory Science bundle and add additional Workbooks and an Answer Key as needed.
